Gesture for reconciliation

In the third episode, the host interviews two Muslims, who are also convicted terrorists, about their view on killing the innocent people in modern Jihad. Their reply regards a civilian as an outright combatant, a guilty one, simply because he/her also has voted and paid tax to the government which send troops to attack a Muslim country. This is where I start to realize their Jihad may have been an act of 'revenge' in reality instead of Quran's interpretation -"striving in the way of God (al-jihad fi sabil Allah)." Then, this documentary host further brings in one forgiving act from the Prophet himself - sparing the lives of his longstanding enemies who had been trying to kill Muhammad. This is a way, i think, to persuade those who have joined Jihad not to continue their killing and stop the use of violence. This documentary is a gesture for reconciliation after that 911 attack and retaliations from both sides.
